'Ai Pono expands eating disorder treatment program on Maui

‘Ai Pono Hawaii Eating Disorder Treatment Program, Hawaii’s premier eating disorder treatment facility, is pleased to announce that we have opened four additional beds at our Maui location in order to provide much needed care for the growing number of women and girls struggling with eating disorders. At 12-beds, ‘Ai Pono Hawaii remains to be one of the few stand-alone eating disorder treatment programs in the country. As such, we continue to be able to provide highly individualized, expert care to our patients.

As we all know, these past few years have resulted in an unprecedented uptick in the number of individuals struggling with mental health issues, including eating disorders. Isolation, illness, grief, and job loss among other unforeseen changes and events have led many individuals to turn or return to disordered eating as a way of coping. ‘Ai Pono Hawaii has responded to this increased need in several ways, and our recent expansion is just one.

Additionally, the newly formed ‘Ai Pono Foundation, a non-profit with the primary mission to educate the local community on the impact of eating disorders and provide greater access to services for those in need, has expanded its presence and activities. Just within the past year, ‘Ai Pono Foundation hosted their first fundraiser and organized a local campaign designed to increase eating disorder awareness including radio interviews and advertisements. The Foundation also teamed up with local high school students to create and distribute eating disorder awareness posters and related materials throughout high schools. There is immense potential for ‘Ai Pono Foundation to continue to serve as a resource for students, community members, and mental health professionals in Hawaii and beyond!
